Helen Stark from Perth became the first female Protestant martyr in Scotland, reason being that she did not cry out the virgin mary,s name during the birth of her son, her words were to her Saviour, Jesus Christ, upon hearing this the local bishop informed Cardinal David Beaton, any well informed Protestant of the day feared this man as he tended to forget that there was a reformation in progress,( he did in later years when he was assasinated over the treatment of George Wishart), anyways she and her husband were found guilty of heresy, he to be burned at the stake in Perth, she to be sent to the "drowning pool" on Perth,s South Inch Park. The method being that she was enclosed in a sack with a few boulders and thrown into the pond and drowned, sadly there is no monument to this brave woman, except in the naming of the ladies lodge, but alas that is now defunct but plans are afoot by LOL 209 Perth to rectify the ommision of her name from any historical view by Perth Council
Pictures of the ladies lodge will be on this page soon
