There has been an Orange presence in Perth since circa 1895, but records are sketchy due to loss of records at Grand Lodge level, but we do know that in 1914 all the members of Perth Purple Heroes volunteered to fight for King and Country and fought with the Black Watch at High Wood at the Somme on 1st July 1916, the lodge never re-opened again until 1935. When WW2 broke according to information gleaned from our County Grand Master Bro James G McLean, the whole lodge volunteered again for active service in 1939, there are no records of the lodge until it re-appeared again in 1956 as Sons of William under Falkirk District, when it disappeared again in 1959
The current Lodge was formed on June 16th 1969, the only remaining member is Bro D McGregor PM whom for the past 25 years has been secretary of the lodge.
Our Lodge can boast 3 Past Masters whom have been elevated to the position of RWDM Col Cleland Memorial Dist No 65,Bros George McNab, Bro Alan Grant, the current incumbent for the past 11 years is Bro Davie McGregor and is deeply honoured to hold that position, but will be stepping down at the next District AGM, October 2008.
As a matter of interest to any historian Perth was the main hotbed of pre-reformation Scotland, and the bubble burst when John Knox made his famous sermon in St.John's Kirk and sparked the reformation proper in Scotland. His bible can still be seen to this day in the Kirk
